The Quill Award was an American literary award that ran for three years in 2005-2007. It was a "consumer-driven award created to inspire reading while promoting literacy."

Which was the first manga to win this award?

The name was devised by branding consultants Michael Cronan and Karin Hibma.Cronan and Hibma suggested X as they felt this was an apt metaphor for reading and intellectual excitement.

X estimated that he auditioned for between 15 and 30 television pilots, however the shows failed to find a television network. Eventually there came along an exception.

Though the character he was cast for had no similarity to him, he was enchanted by the dialogue structure, the way the writers "brilliantly use those words that most of us don't recognize to create that rhythm. And the rhythm got me. It was the chance to dance through that dialogue, and in a lot of ways still is."

The role requires X to "rattle off line after line of tightly composed, rhythmic dialogue, as well as then do something with his face or body during the silence that follows."

What did he do?

After facing a writers block for almost over a year X decided it was time to introspect. The problem was fairly simple. If he wrote about things appreciated at the mathematical center in Amsterdam his colleagues at Eindhoven University of technology didn't appreciate it and vice versa. He then decided to write only for himself, and in this way the EWDs were born. X was known for his habit of carefully composing manuscripts with his fountain pen. The manuscripts are called EWDs.

Apart from his job he also served as a chairman for the fictional company Mathematics inc. ( a company that he imagined having commercialized the production of mathematical theorems in the same way that software companies had commercialized the production of computer programs)

EWD 443 (1974) describes his fictional company as having over 75 percent of the world's market share.

The ads were directed by genius documentarian Errol Morris, a frequent dabbler in the world of commercials who's contributed to campaigns for Levis, Citibank, and Nike, among others.
